Sadie Ama
Introducing
Sadie Ama. Born Mersadie Louise Hall on 19th August 1987. This future
superstar grew up in Kilburn, London NW6. Having been brought up in a household
in which music was the greatest passion, (her mother Sonia was a jazz singer in
a group called the Clamber and her older sister is platinum selling Shola Ama)
it was inevitable that Sadie would catch the music bug. Here you have it. The
sweet sounds of Sadie Ama, hotly tipped to be a big star of 2007.
The first track I heard a while ago was So Sure, how did you get to this point
where you're going to be releasing your first single Fallin'?
After So Sure I wasn't sure if singing was what I wanted to do so I took time
out and focused on my education. After a year I realised that singing was what I
really wanted to do. Before I knew it I had signed a deal with Ministry Of
Sound.
The instrumental used in Fallin' is unofficially the Wifey Riddim that has been
recorded over by many underground artists, why was it chosen?
I loved the instrumental! I was in the process of recording my album anyway and
my A&R thought it would be good to add my vocals. It was only done as a demo but
people really took to it and from there it just snowballed.
Are you working on an album?
I am in the studio working with some amazing producers. Including Johnny
Douglass, Copenhaniacs and Davinche. Last week I was recording in a studio where
Dido and Faithless recorded their albums. There were million selling plaques all
over the walls. It was mad!
What kind of music can we expect? Will there be Grime?
I don't want to give away too much but I can tell you that it will be filled
with a variety of sounds.
How does it feel to be playlisted on Kiss 100?
It's amazing! I grew up listening to Kiss so to hear my voice is crazy!
Do you think that softer grime will be making the charts this year?
Like with all new sounds it takes a while before it hits mainstream. Grime is
still a fairly new Genre and has dedicated fans. It would be great if it did but
like I said it's still a new sound.
Everyone is saying you're tipped to be a big star in 2007, does that put any
pressure on you?
It's really exciting to know that people think that but I can't let that get in
the way of making music I love. It's a great feeling but at the same time I need
to just focus.
Are there less comparisons to your sister [Shola] now that you're becoming an
artist in your own right?
I rarely get compared to Shola. I have always been seen as my own person which
is great because I want to be successful because I am good at what I do.
Sadie's debut single Fallin' is out 22nd January.
