Bruza
East
London’s very own talented MC, coming from the well established Aftershock camp.
His performance at the Urban Classics concert in February 2006 secured his
status as a true star when he brought the house down, sending the crowd crazy
with his underground success ‘Doin’ Me’, which went on to jam the
airwaves. Bruza is back, to much relief, and will have the streets
knocked out with the sound of his latest tune ‘So Real’.
What’s been different in your life since Get Me came out?
Well, Get Me, I’d say definitely put my name on the map. I’m now getting
recognised on the street for example, I'll be walking down the market and people
of all ages would shout out “get me, get me!” Also, now I’m taking music more
seriously and I’m more dedicated. I wasn’t really in the studio and doing shows
as much as I am now, so life has definitely changed. But I’m the same geezer as
I was before; I haven’t changed as a person.
Do you ever get annoyed when people shout Get Me at you all the time?
Not at all, we did a lot of work promoting that tune so when people say it to me
I’m happy that they know the tune because it shows the work paid off.
How do you feel about the success of Doin’ Me?
I’m getting good feedback from that tune; it’s another tune where people are
shouting at me “I’m just doing me.” I did a P.A of the tune in Paris and to my
surprise they knew the tune and were jumping around going mad and singing along
with me.
Do you think your cockney charm is part of why people are into you?
I spit the same way I talk and don’t put nothing on I think that’s why people
are into the style.
Your spitting style is hype, but do you think you’re a hype guy?
I wouldn’t say I’m a hype guy all the time; I’m laid back half the time. It just
depends on my mood.
What was doing the Urban Classic show like with the orchestra?
That was an amazing musical experience where I learnt a lot and interacted with
people from a whole different background. We all got along great; my favourite
time was when I first saw the conductor doing his stuff controlling 36
instruments with the wave of a stick. I am happy that I was a part of it - we
made history.
I heard you keep chickens…how did that come about?
My mate had some which he got from Waltham Abbey, he was selling them at a good
price and I never let a bargain pass.
Any chance of creating your own little farm?
You never know, I’ve had my eyes on a couple of sheep lately.
Are you any good with birds?
Not according to my last girlfriend.
